Print to OneNote using XPS (64 bit supported)

I was really disappointed when I could not insert files as print outs in OneNote 2007 on my new 64-bit computer because my school has not yet upgraded to Office 2010 . This fix allows me to continue to use OneNote 2007 and use the inking features on my new tablet pc.

I have tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it, I have tried creating a folder using the same name... I don't know why it is not working, please help

New Post: Work around is working but has problem when Desktop has many users

The first time I installed the workaround, it was working. When I logged using another user ID, a Drop folder was not existing on the desktop, but actually I was not expecting one to exist. However, after having chosen the existing drop folder created in the first user directory, the XPS file was created into it, but the transfer to OneStop was not triggered meaning the service watching it was probably not running.

Furthermore, when logged back with the first user ID (following a reboot), any trial of printing using the XPS driver and dropping the file in the appropriate drop folder, the Transfer to OneNote was not triggered, suggesting the watching service is not running.

Hi ! Thanks for this amazing product... I'm on Enterprise 64 (Vista), and use XPStoOneNote every days... Only one concern, or question... It's sure, I'm transfering some heavy PDF (several images... well damn medicine students ppt !). The XPS is about 200mb and the XPS printer process is fine... The problem is with XPStoOneNote... it takes several minutes and completly freeze-up the computer... When I go to Task Manager, I see that XPStoOneNote is peaking up to my 8gb of RAM... !!! Damn !!!! Oh... and the computer is completly freeze up during transfert process...

Is anyone got this situation too !? Is anybody has solution !? :(

P.S. Is there any ways to do suggestion on user interface !? (or dooing it my self : i.e. "keeping last onenote book used" : its avoiding to browse the whole list everytime, and maybee tree organisation for the list of OneNote books is the list destination).

Hi-

I downloaded XPS2OneNote to print to OneNote, but it is not working. I have a 64-bit OS. XPS2 is running, but the second dialog box that is supposed to pop up after you save to the XPS2 drop file does not come up. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I had the same experience. I'm on Windows 7 x64. Installed fine, started XPS2OneNote. Print to target folder, move files to target folder, nothing happens. I wonder if a recent windows update has caused it to stop working.

Created Issue: Current XPS2OneNote Installation Package Does Not Uninstall Earlier Version [4335]

In order to upgrade XPS2OneNote to the current version 1.1, the older version of the software needs to be uninstalled. The previous version installation package was removed from my system and does not appear to be available on the application website. Installer is looking for this old .msi package when trying to uninstall older version.

I agree with bigstras. XPS2OneNote is a huge step forward to close the gap lost in the Print to OneNote functionality. However, every time I use XPS2OneNote I have to then select the image, right click to deselect "Set Picture as Background," and the right click to Select "Make Text in Image Searchable."

Users would intuitively expect the default behavior to not "Set Picture as Background" as it is in the original Print to OneNote utility. Likewise, in Print to OneNote "Make Text in Image Searchable" is the default as well. I suggest that both these settings be made the default in the next release of XPS2OneNote. Better yet, make both "Set Picture as Background" and "Make Text in Image Searchable" settings that can be set to default as the user desires.

I use this program with powerpoint slides often, and find it very useful to search through my onenote notebooks for the occurrences of certain words. & nbsp;(i'm in medical school, and as you can imagine, there are ideas that come up often).

I have to say the new version works like a charm, and having this functionality greatly simplifies my life.

I have one problem though. The default of this program is to set the printouts as background images, and therefore they are not indexed by OneNote unless I go through a few steps to make all the slides not be in the background, and then make OneNote index them (which makes OneNote unusable for a few minutes at a time).

Is there something i'm missing? Why is this the default behavior?

While this is not a huge deal, I can't imagine i'm the only person who would request that it be possible to choose whether or not the slides are part of the background or pictures inserted in the foreground.

2009-11-26: Updated with fixes to work on Win7 and improvements to scale the printout. Several bug fixes.
